Job Description
Commercial Painter
This is a skilled commercial painting position. The work requires a high level of attention to detail orientation, and dexterity. Work is performed outdoors and indoors via commercial building sites which require extensive mobility and fine motor movements. The work is performed under general supervision where work assignments are subject to instruction. Work is reviewed through observation and results obtained.
Examples of Work
- Apply coatings, such as paint, to protect or decorate workpiece surfaces, using pens, or brushes.
- Immerse objects or workpieces in cleaning or coating solutions.
- Inspect finishes of workpieces or finished products.
- Operate painting or coating equipment such as spray units.
- Mix ingredients to create specific finishes.
- Clean production equipment.
- Maintain production or processing equipment.
- Clean workpieces or finished products.
- Fill cracks, imperfections, or holes in products or workpieces.
- Attach functional accessories to products.
- Position patterns on equipment, materials, or workpieces.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of painting principles.
- Skill in applying coatings, such as paint, to protect or decorate workpiece surfaces, using spray guns, pens, or brushes.
- Skill in concealing blemishes in workpieces, such as nicks and dents, using fillers such as putty.
- Skill in rinsing, draining, or wiping coated workpieces to remove excess coating material or to facilitate setting of finish coats on workpieces.
- Skill in selecting and mixing ingredients to prepare coating substances according to specifications, using paddles or mechanical mixers.
- Ability to examine finished surfaces of workpieces to verify conformance to specifications and retouch any defective areas.
- Ability to clean and maintain tools and equipment, using solvents, brushes, and rags.
- Ability to immerse workpieces into coating materials for specified times.
- Ability to clean surfaces of workpieces in preparation for coating, using cleaning fluids, solvents, brushes, scrapers, steam, sandpaper, or cloth.
Physical Abilities
- Stand up to 8 hours per day
- Walk up 8 hours per day
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Lift bend or reach
Requirements
- Must have reliable transportation (own vehicle and DL).
- Be able to pass a drug-screen test.
- Be able to provide up to date and valid proof to work in the U.S.
- Two years of commercial painting experience desired, not required.
